When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. The active retention phase lasts for 24 months with full-time wear recommended for the first year and nighttime wear for the second year.

Following the two-year period, we recommend continuing to wear the retainers as needed to keep them fitting. We recommend slowly reducing retainer wear for each patient by increasing the time interval they are left out. Every patient is different, and the amount of continued wear necessary will vary.

Your final orthodontic result depends on your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you’ve put in so far. Remember to remove your retainer before brushing, and brush your retainer before placing it back in your mouth.
